SUMMARY
MICROBIAL EVALUATION OF SURGERY ROOMS IN CENTRAL
UNIVERSITY MILITARY HOSPITAL IN TIRANA

Hospital Infections that are of hospital origine such as operating rooms,
emergency rooms or the hospital wards, represent now a big and increased trouble for the
public health institutions. Both types of hospital infections caused by gram-positive
bacterium (70-80% of the cases) and gram negative bacterium (20% of the cases) remain
grave. Because of these reasons this scientific study bear witness to the main and
important role of the microbiology laboratory regarding the accurate and rapid
identification of the etiology of the nosocomial infections and, in this concrete issue, in
the operating rooms of the Central Military University Hospital of Tirana. The aim of the
examinations of this study is to make known the quantity of the germs in the air of the
operating rooms and emergency rooms of this hospital. As an indicator of sterilization
and disinfection processes that are carried out according to the standards of the daily
clinical work. The examinations, provided according to the RCS (reuter-centrifugalsampler)
method, used air specimen taken by the five operating rooms, 2 orthopedic
operating rooms and emergency room. The examination of 107 air specimen
demonstrated the presence of the micro organisms present in this environment. Because
of the importance of the nosocomial infections, the microbiology laboratory is the
responsible authority that makes possible the early identification of the microorganisms
with the same or similar phenotypic characteristics. It is necessary to use the disinfection
at the beginning and in the end of a working day in the hospital as well as the use of
germicide lamps and the professional training of the medical personal of the hospitals.
