In this paper we present the initial results of the introducing of the multimodal
diagnostic approach comprise of specific hematological, immunological and molecular
analyses aimed to define specific prognostic entities of acute leuekemias ―Core binding
factor‖ acute myeloid leukemias (CBF-AML). A total of 76 patients with acute leukemia
who were diagnosed at the University Clinic of Hematology-Skopje were included in our
study. The AML was established in 64 patients. In 10(15,6%) patients the presence of the
fusion transcripts AML1/ETO and CBF /MYH11 was confirmed by using Real time
quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RQ-PCR). Our initial results are consistent with
literature data and indicate that our applied multimodal diagnostic approach improved the
diagnosis of those specific genetic entities of AML and allows individual clinical
stratification in treatment protocols of the patients.
Key words: ―Core binding factor‖ (CBF), acute myeloid leukemias (AML), Real time
quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RQ-PCR), AML1/ETO /MYH11.
