Małgorzata Markowska INPUT AND OUTPUT INNOVATION TYPE IN CZECH, POLISH
AND SLOVAK REGIONS AT THE BACKGROUND OF THE EUROPEAN SPACE
Having assumed that the median (ME) represents positional statistics, the following has
been obtained:
- class I covers the regions for which both the value of innovation aggregate measure
INPUT and OUTPUT type is higher than the median; in this class of regions, in the
year under analysis, there was registered higher than median criterion level of
innovation in both perspectives,
- class II groups the regions for which the value of aggregate innovation measure
INPUT type is higher than the median, while in case of OUTPUT type innovation
the respective value is lower than the median set for all regions undergoing
analysis; these are the regions in which the “input” part of innovation indicators
presents a relatively high measure value, while innovation “effects” are at a
relatively low level,
- class III includes these regions for which innovation aggregate measure OUTPUT
type is higher, while the value of aggregate measure INPUT type is lower than the
median; these are the regions in which a relatively high level of innovation
“effects” was registered, but the INPUT innovation level persisted relatively low,
- class IV covers these regions for which the values of both innovation aggregate
measure of INPUT and OUTPUT type are lower than the median; these are the
regions which experience relatively low innovation “outlays” and “effects”.
Table 1 presents specifications of NUTS 2 level regions assigned to initially declared
classes. The first class includes regions of 14 countries, among which there are only two
countries from the group of 2004 accession – covering capital regions of Hungary and
Slovakia. Generally, the first group lists almost all capital regions of countries included
in it. Higher than the median innovation aggregate measures’ values of INPUT and
OUTPUT type are characteristic for as many as eight out of 11 Belgium regions, all
Swedish, Finnish and Dutch regions and also 29 out of 37 British regions. These are the
regions which create innovations and use their result in a real, practical sphere.
