Tematem projektu jest hybrydowy budynek centrum danych.
Postęp technologiczny oraz gwałtowny wzrost wykorzystania
danych cyfrowych stał się przesłanką do podjęcia próby
zmiany kształtowania obiektów typu serwerownia. Obiekty te
są przestrzenią intensywnie zajmowaną przez dane należące
do ludzi, ale w rzeczywistości nie ma do niej fizycznego
dostępu, ani często świadomości o jej strukturze i dokładnej
lokalizacji. Ta przestrzeń jest nieobecna w żadnej historycznej
typologii, myli anonimowość z poczuciem bezpieczeństwa,
wzmacniając kłamstwo internetowej „wszechobecności”.
Lokalizacja serwerowni w mieście, na terenach
poprzemysłowych Młodego Miasta Gdańsk, jest próbą
podkreślenia udziału tej infrastruktury w funkcjonowaniu
zglobalizowanego świata. Hybrydowe Data Center jest próbą
zaangażowania społeczeństwa w empiryczne zapoznanie
się z tematyką postępującej technologii i przechowywania
danych. Otwarta przestrzeń, staje się również zieloną
enklawą dla poprzemysłowego terenu i stanowi równowagę
pomiędzy światem rzeczywistym, a cyfrowym.
Architectural infrastructure –
digital data storage centre
The subject of this project is a hybrid data centre building.
Technological advancement and a rapid increase in the use of
digital data has inspired an attempt to alter the way facilities
such as server rooms are shaped. Facilities like this are areas
intensively taken up by data owned by people, but in reality
there is no physical access to these places, nor is there
awareness about their structure or exact location. This space
is absent in any historic typology, and it confuses anonymity
with the sense of security by reinforcing the notion of the
internet’s “omnipresence”. The location of server rooms
in the city, in the post-industrial areas of Gdańsk’s Młode
Miasto, is an attempt to emphasise the participation of
this infrastructure in the functioning of a globalised world.
The hybrid Data Centre is an attempt to engage society
in empirical familiarisation with the subject of advancing
technology and data storage. The open space also becomes
a green enclave for the post-industrial area and brings about
balance between the real and the virtual world.
