Muzeum rzeźb figuralnych z okresu PRL-u
z magazynem i pracownią konserwatorską
podziemnej sali rzeźby i malarstwa socrealizmu.
historycznej struktury.
A museum of communist-era statues with
storage space and restoration workshop
at the Zamoyski Museum in Kozłówka
The project is a response to the Zamoyski Museum’s growing
functional needs. It entails the adaptation of the 18thcentury
Old Carriage House as well as the development
of the museum part of the facility following consultations
with museum users. The idea of a “road” crystallised in
the process of working on the development’s form, and
the stairs leading to the underground display room of
socialist realism sculpture & painting became an important
architectural feature. The very exit route from the dark
interior of the display room into sunlight and further onto
a treetop walkway has an ideological significance and
conveys a sense of liberty and a nation freeing itself from
a doctrine. The exhibition is functionally connected with
the restoration workshop. The new building references the
Old Carriage House through compositional axes. The final
architectural form are two cubes: the first as a raised building
of the restoration room with a foyer and the second one as
a continuation of the exhibition on the trends in Polish postwar
art. The foyer has been given a simple, curved glass form,
covered with a steel mesh structure. The new development
is “hidden” behind the museum building without disrupting
its historical character.
