The Torres de Alba Project located at west center part of Bogotá, comprises 12, ten story buildings with half basement, founded on a soft to very soft and normally consolidated clay of the Bogotá plateau, that have an average thickness of 29.5m (96.8ft) on the site. Several foundation systems were deeply analyzed, namely: slab-friction pile, slab total floatation (compensation), site preload, and precast point and friction piles. Finally, the precast piles solution was chosen. The article presents the results of the geotechnical investigations done by 11 borings that varied between 8 and 50m (26.2 and 165ft) deep, the determination of the soil profile and location of the water table, the evaluation of the geotechnical material properties and strength, the analyses of the foundation alternatives studied and selection of most convenient for the type of soil, and the behavior analysis of the first six buildings built by means of survey instrumentation.
