Semiology for Compositional Interpretation of a Visual Artifact
This is a short and very basic guide to the use of signs and symbols in visual artifacts. It is meant to be introductory only and to require the aid of an instructor, at least at first viewing. Its purpose is to encourage the viewer to pay attention to how visual elements function as signs that are part of a larger system of signification (meaning) thanks to which the work of art allows the artist and the viewer to communicate successfully, albeit imperfectly, across vast expanses of time and space.
