World Vision works to address the barriers that people living with disabilities face on
a daily basis. SAENER supports the global goal of World Vision’s disability inclusion
work to see full, equal and meaningful participation of children and adults with disabilities
in all spheres of society. All vulnerable households, regardless of their physical condition,
were targeted as beneficiaries for the cash transfer programme. Consideration were given
to people living with disabilities in the beneficiary selection criteria as well as inclusion in
committees. In rural Angola, persons with disabilities are estimated to represent ten per cent
of the population and older people (> 60 years) are estimated to represent five per cent of the
population. The program ensures that assistance is accessible and inclusive of these groups
when they are a member of a family with malnourished children. Trainings and sensitizations
workshops during response were inclusive of those living with disabilities and the venues
which were used were accessible by all groups. Monitoring the situation of people living with
disabilities has been very pivotal in recognising their situation and designing inclusive project
intervention.
With the aid of World Vision’s economic development program (a goat multiplication project in Hambula village of
Moyo Area Development Program in Zambia’s Southern province), HIV positive couple Lillian, 43 with her husband
Stephen, 46, were able to raise their 5-year old son, Stephen.
