Back to School
Back to school!
It’s back to school time for many students. This can cause
changes to your routines whether it be a longer
commute time or demands from children and family.
Have a plan!
• If your half hour commute
becomes an hour when many
schools start up in August or
September that will impact the
time you have available for
school.
• If you have children that may
need help with their own
homework or have activities, that
could also impact your school
time.
• Create a plan to account for
the additional demands on
your time.
• Be sure to schedule some fun
in there too!
Have a back-up plan
• Children get sick
• Computers break
• Buses run late
• Work schedules change
What’s your back-up plan?
Have one so that when a
stressful event happens, you
know what steps to take and do
not need to spend extra time and
energy trying to find a quick
solution.
Do not procrastinate
• Read ahead
• Check in on Monday to see what is coming in that week
• Start working on assignments early in the week.
• Always try to leave yourself a day or two buffer so when the unexpected
happens, you are ready.
Prepare those in your life
• If your schedule changes, that could mean changes for others you
relate to.
• Discuss your schedule change with these people and let the know
your new availability.
• Ask for help and support
Ask for help
We all need help at times. Whether it be at home or at school,
identify people that can help you with different tasks.
• Can the kids help with chores?
• Can someone in your family help with a few hours of childcare?
• Can a spouse, roommate or partner help with the cooking?
• Can you alternate dropping off the kids at school with another
parent (carpooling)?
Focus on your Goal
Everyday remind yourself of your goal to complete your degree.
Put a post-it with reminder on your refrigerator or visualize yourself
at graduation or in your dream job.
A daily reminder can help keep you motivated!
