и Херцеговини. Путовао је он даље и стигао до Ста ре

Bosnia and Herzegovina was under occupation, because the Serbs
dreamed of creating a Yugoslav state with the Croats.
Aleksandar Giljferding didn’t only stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He travelled farther and reached the land known then as
Old Serbia. His descriptions of the places in present-day Kosovo and
Metohia belong to the most impressive intermingling of an excellent
knowledge of history and ability to make powerful observations.

“Such example of concord and love toward the common thing
could be seen among the Christians from Peć. The monks of the patriarchy
monastery spoke to me about the charity the Christians from
Peć have for their monastery. None of the citizens would leave the
church if they hadn’t donated to the monastery at least a part of their
weekly salary. The municipality supports the school as a very important
institution for this region. The school has existed for 70 years. I
believe it is one of the oldest Slavic schools in Turkey (…) And in Peć,
the school for girls was estab­ lished two years ago and about 40
girls study there.
