се од Охрид ске ар хи е пи ско п и је. За тим је Са ва по пра во слав ном
об ре ду кру ни сао бра та Сте фа на, ко ји је већ био до био кру ну и
ти ту лу од рим ског па пе. Та ко је би ло за вр ше но де ло Сте фа на
Не ма ње и ње го вих прет ход ни ка, вел и ког жу па на – Ср би ја је
по ста ла кра ље ви на, са сво јом цр квом – не за ви сна др жа ва.
Са ва је осно вао но ве и ус по ста вио по но во не ке од ра нијих
епи ско пи ја. Жич ки храм Св. Ваз не се ња био је се ди ште ар хие
пи ско пи јe, у Ср би ји су би ле три ста ре епи ско пи је – ра шка, са
се ди штем у хра му Св. Пе тра и Па вла, ли пљан ска (по том гра чанич
ка) и при зрен ска, са се ди штем у да нас ра зо ре ном хра му Св.
Бо го ро ди це Ље ви шке. На при мор ју је се ди ште хум ске епи ско пије
би ло на Пе ље шцу, зет ска епи ско пи ја оформ ље на је у Хра му
Св. Ар хан ге ла Ми хај ла, на Пре вла ци (у Бо ки Ко тор ској) а у Поли
мљу бу ди мљан ска са се ди штем у бе ран ском хра му Св. Ђор ђа.
Око из во ра Бе лог Дри ма би ла је хво стан ска епар хи ја, се ди ште
мо ра вич ке би ло је у Ари љу (храм Св. Ахи ли ја), а то плич ке у Св.
Ни ко ли, код Про ку пља.
Био је са вет ник и во дио ва жне ди пло мат ске ми си је у
име три срп ска кра ља: Сте фа на Пр во вен ча ног, свог бра та, Радо
сла ва и Вла ди сла ва. Два пу та ишао на хо до ча шће у Све ту
зе мљу. Са Си на ја до нео у Ср би ју јед ну од нај ве ћих срп ских
све ти ња – ико ну Тро је ру чи цу ко ја се чу ва у Хи лан да ру.
Осни вао бол ни це и шко ле. Ср би га да нас сла ве као школску
сла ву. Као школ ска сла ва пр ви пут је сла вљен од Ср ба у
Зе му ну, у 19. ве ку. „Ус клик ни мо с љу ба вљу, све ти те љу Са ви,
срп ске цр кве и шко ле, све ти тељ ској гла ви”, гла си пр ва сто фа
Све то сав ске хим не. Умро у бу гар ском Тр но ву, ода кле ње го ве
све те мо шти, с те шком му ком, пре у зи ма си но вац, краљ Вла дислав,
и пре но си их у сво ју за ду жби ну, ма на стир Ми ле ше ву.

Following the approval of Theodore Laskaris, Patriarch Manuel
appointed Sava the supreme archbishop „of all Serbian and sea
lands”, and the Serbian church was elevated to the status of an
archbishopric and became autocephalous (with the right to organize
councils of bishops and to elect bishops and the archbishop)
thus separating from the Ohrid Archibishopric. Then, Sava crowned
his brother Stefan according to the Orthodox ceremony despite the
fact that he had already obtained a king’s crown and title from the
Roman Pope. That is how the deeds of Stefan Nemanja and his
precursors, the great župans, were completed – Serbia became a
kingdom, and with its church, it became an independent state.
Sava established new and restored some of the old bishoprics.
The Church of the Holy Ascension in Žiča Monastery was the seat of
the Archbishopric, Serbia had three earlier bishoprics- the Diocese
of Raška with the seat in the Church of Saint Peter and Paul, the
Diocese of Lipljan (later Gračanica) and the Diocese of Prizren with
its seat at the Church of the Holy Virgin of Ljeviš that was destroyed
in 2004. Along the sea, the seat of the Hum Diocese was in Pelješac,
the Diocese of Zeta was founded in the Church of the Saint Archangel
Michael in Prevlaka bay (in Boka Kotorska), and the Diocese of
Budimlje had its seat in Polimlje in the Church of Saint George in the
town of Berane. The Eparchy of Hvosno was established near the
spring of the Beli Drim River, Arilje (Church of Saint Achilios) was
the seat of the Eparchy of Moravica and the Church of Saint Nicholas
near Prokuplje was the seat of the Diocese of Toplica.
Sava was a counselor and in the name of three Serbian
kings: Stefan the First Crowned, who was his brother, then
King Radoslav and King Vladislav, Sava led important diplomatic
missions. He went twice on pilgrimages to the Holy Land. From
Mount Sinai he brought to Serbia one of the greatest Serbian holy
objects – an icon representing the Holy Mother of God Trojeručica
(meaning: with three hands) that is kept in Hilandar Monastery.
He established hospitals and schools. Today, Serbs celebrate
him as the Slava of schools (a slava is an ecclesiastical and
family celebration that among Orthodox nations is typical only of
the Serbian Orthodox religion). As a school slava, Saint Sava’s
Day was first celebrated in the town of Zemun during the 19 th
century. The first line of the Hymn to Saint Sava is: „Sing with
love to Saint Sava, the patron-saint of the Serbian church and
school”. He died in the Bulgarian village of Trnovo where Vladislav
took over his uncle’s relics and, with many difficulties, transferred
them to his endowment, the monastery of Mileševa.
