Мезолитска епоха постепено је довела до преоријентације ловачко-сакупљачких заједница на лов и риболов
и до појаве седелачког начина живота. На подручју Србије ова епоха је углавном позната са локалитета који
се налазе у Ђердапској клисури, као што су Падина, Власац, Хајдучка воденица и Лепенски вир. Падина и Власац
у својим најстаријим слојевима садрже остатке сезонских насеља, мезолитских ловаца и риболоваца, као и алатке
од кости, камена, рога и зуба дивље свиње. На Лепенском виру први пут долази до изражаја, у извесном смислу,
урбанистички приступ у решавању распореда станишта, учињени су први покушаји у селекцији биљака, а пас је већ
био припитомљен. Лепенски вир је дао и прве примерке монументалне скулптуре у Европи, из 6.000. године п. н. е.
Данас је локалитет потопљен изградњом хидроелектране Ђердап I, али је део насеља, са својим карактеристичним
рапезоидним кућама, дислоциран на виши ниво и може се видети у Музеју Лепенског вира у Ђердапу.
The Mesolithic era gradually led toward the reorientation of the communities of hunters and fruit pickers to communities of hunters and
fishermen and the appearance of a centralised way of life. On the territory of Serbia this epoch is mainly known thanks to the archaeological
sites in the Đerdap Gorge, such as Padina, Vlasac, Hajdučka vodenica (Haiduk’s watermill) and Lepenski Vir. The oldest layers of Padina
and Vlasac contain the remains of the seasonal settlements, Mesolithic hunters and fishermen as well as tools made of bones, stone, horns
and teeth of wild pig. In Lepenski Vir for the first time, in some sense, comes to the forefront an urbanist approach to solving the disposition
of a settlement, the first attempts to select different kinds of plants were made, and the dog was already domesticated. Lepenski Vir gave
also the first examples of monumental sculpture in Europe, dating from 6000 BC. Today, the site is drowned by the construction of the power
plant Đerdap I, but a part of the settlement, with its typical trapesoid houses, can be seen in the Museum of Lepenski Vir in Đerdap.
