During and after the war in Federative Republic of Yugoslavia (from 1999 till 2002), 17 monasteries
were ruined or damaged, 23 are in danger, out of a total number of 51 medieval monuments
of culture that exist in Kosovo and Metohia, This takes into account only the monuments of the

Бо го ро ди це Ље ви шке Ми ха и ла Астра пе, оба за бе ле же на на
лу ку спољ не при пра те у окви ру нат пи са ко ји је тре ба ло да
под се ти епи ско па при зрен ског ка кве све оба ве зе има у да вањи
ма си ро ти њи.
Фраг мен ти нај ста ри јег жи во пи са у Бо го ро ди ци Ље вишкој
по ти чу из вре ме на Све тог Са ве, од но сно пе ри о да из ме ђу

The church of the Holy Vir gin in Lje vis, one of the ol dest neig
hbo ur ho ods in the town of Pri zren in Ko so vo, was al ready
erec ted in 9th cen tury as a three-na ve ba si li ca with an in ner parvis
and ro o fed with the wo o den con struc tion. When du ring the
esta blis hment of St. Sa va’s epi sco pa ci es in the first half of 13th
cen tury the he a dqu ar ters of the Pri zren’s bis hop we re mo ved in,
the Holy Vir gin in Lje vis was re sto red for the first ti me sin ce the
ba si li ca’s up per flo ors had been bro ught to ru ins.
Its pre sent ap pe a ran ce of com plex fi ve-cu po la church with
open eso nart hex abo ve which cen tral part a slen der bel fry ra i ses,
all lu mi no us due to its two-part win dows and arch-li ke ope nings,
re pre sents the work of king Mi lu tin Ne ma njic’s. Hi story for the

Holy Vir gin in Lje vis ori gi na te from the ti me of St. Sa va, that is
