Croatia – Together to Victory”. The gathering was organised by
war veterans who had been protesting at Savska street 66 and
held at the Jelačić square in Zagreb on 2 May. While Marko
Perković Thompson played a concert and Đuro Glogoški, one of
the organisers, made an open call for a coup d’état, war criminals
Dario Kordić and Branimir Glavaš were among the estimated
10,000 people at the rally. Anica Kovač, who was also there, said
“the time has come for a pure Croatia”.
Former parliament member and general Ljubo Ćesić Rojs was
even more explicit in his statement for the Dnevno.hr portal following
the ceremony marking the 20 th anniversary of Operation
Storm. He said: “What counter-Storm? What Frljić 24 , Pupovac
and Teršelić? 25 If I were in power they would not even be allowed
to come to Rijeka, let alone organize something. We are giving
them too much freedom to spit on Croatia and do what they will.
I would sort them out easily.”
On February 10, a “wanted“ poster for Milorad Pupovac, the president
of the Serb National Council and a member of the Croatian
parliament (SDSS), was published on Branimir Glavaš’ 26 Facebook
page with the following text: “Look at this snout and always bear
in mind that his hatred for the Croatian people and the Croatian
state is a unit of measure for evil, for criminal policies towards
one’s own homeland...“ Somewhat later, one of the HDSSB leaders,
Dinko Burić, told a HDSSB news conference: “The SDSS parliamentary
caucus has become so arrogant that they no longer act like a
caucus but like a Chetnik, Greater Serbian cell. Professed Chetnik
dukes and their offspring sit in the Sabor (Croatian parliament).“
Soon thereafter the police informed the public it had launched an
investigation because of the hate speech by Glavaš and Burić.
On his Facebook page, Glavaš also spoke his mind about the
swastika drawn by unknown perpetrators in the middle of the
football pitch at the Poljud stadium in Split in June 2015. “What
happened at the Poljud stadium last night is no ‘swastika’ whatsoever
but the tracks of a lawn mower on the freshly mown grass.
To assure yourselves of the accuracy of this statement, take a
closer look at the harmony of colours on the real ‘Nazi swastika’
and compare it to the tracks left by the Poljud lawn mower. You
will conclude that the swastika is the most unique designer
perfection ever to have appeared in the history of the world’s
political parties or historic political orders“, Glavaš wrote.
