the Jasenovac camp, Vuković discusses “war victims (numbers)<br />

blown out of proportion” and particularly elaborates on the<br />

“myth about the alleged Ustasha slaughter at the Orthodox<br />

church in Glina.” 20 During the presentation of the book, war veteran<br />

Andrija Marić shouted: “War in these parts will end with the<br />

victorious Croatian army’s parade on Terazije.” 21<br />

A National Ethical Court, (an unofficial body established in 2014),<br />

condemned in several public “court hearings” a number of public<br />

figures for ‘national treason’. In April <strong>2015</strong>, the court “ruled”<br />

against former president Stjepan Mesić, former minister Vesna<br />

Pusić and parliament member Milorad Pupovac. “It is hard to<br />

predict the effect of this verdict, but one thing is certain, such<br />

persons should not be holding their present posts. Vesna Pusić<br />

started working against Croatian national interests already as<br />

a young person and as for Stjepan Mesić, together with Pusić<br />

he sided with Serbia and started equalising the victim and the<br />

aggressor... On the other hand, we have Milorad Pupovac who<br />

is abusing his position as a parliament deputy to spread Chetnik<br />

ideas, he is charged with Chetnik high treason...” Zvonimir<br />

Šeparović explained this decision for the Dnevno.hr website.<br />

convince the Serbs that the<br />

conversion would save their<br />

lives. Although they were<br />

suspicious about the promise,<br />

1,500 inhabitants took heed<br />

at the end of July 1941. The<br />

Ustasha took them to Glina<br />

on trucks, shut them inside<br />

the local Orthodox church<br />

and killed them with cold<br />

On April 10, the date marking the declaration of the NDH, a<br />

celebration was held in Split to mark the anniversary of forming<br />

the right-wing HOS militia, which had taken part in the 1991–1995<br />

war in Croatia and which has a monument in the city. The<br />

Mayor of Split, Ivo Baldasar, sent an envoy with a wreath to<br />

attend the event. On May 16 the 70th anniversary was held<br />

to commemorate the execution of the defeated NDH military<br />

members and civilian supporters. The HDZ party leadership<br />

led by Tomislav Karamarko and Milijan Brkić attended the<br />

commemoration. President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović sent her<br />

representative Bruna Esih to pay tribute to the victims. Also<br />

present were leaders of the HDSSB, led by Branimir Glavaš, and<br />

the war veterans who had staged the prolonged protests at<br />

Savska street in Zagreb. This commemoration abounded in the<br />

proscribed Ustasha iconography, as evidenced by a photograph<br />

of Velimir Bujanec, host of the obscure Bujica TV show, in which<br />

he proudly posed next to a flag featuring the NDH coat-of-arms<br />

and an embroidered “U” letter.<br />

According to Izvor, a journal issued by the Joint Council of<br />

Municipalities, Ustasha symbols were also seen in the very<br />

centre of Vukovar, where a flag was hung on a private house
