Poleg kumulativnih izra~unov smo s principom anizotropi~nih povr{in porabeizra~unavali optimalne poti med izbranimi lokacijami, s katerimi smo modelirali rimsko mre`o poti.KLJU^NE BESEDEGIS, optimalne poti, Via Flavia, severozahodna IstraABSTRACTThe search for the Roman road network in North-western IstriaThis contribution presents the GIS use and results at ascertaining the Roman network of routes and roadsin North-western Istra. Predominantly we used the multiple calculations of optimal routes for generatingcumulative maps of optimal routes. We calculated them in various ways: from the randomly selected pointsin the environment, between today's settlements with Roman settlement remains and amongst the Romansettlements themselves. The cumulative maps have proven to be useful tools, for they enable the insight intothe hierarchy of individual network sections, while taking into account the number of iterations. We foundkey links and routes that help us understand and find the possible variations of the true Roman road network, which holds especially true for the flysch part of the research area. Apart from the cumulative calculationswe have also calculated the optimum routes between the chosen locations (with the principle of anisotropiccost surface) with which we modelled the Roman network of routes and roads.KEYWORDSGIS, optimal routes, Via Flavia, North-western Istria211
