Cognitive Psychology about Jugdement UnderUncertainty (1)Atsuko KOBAYASHI it can be understood naturally if one remembers that the concept ofprobability is based on relative frequency of a given outcome in uncertain phenomena, whichcan be visulized in a thought experiment involving a certain number of trials. One can findand understand the theoretical probability naturally by visualizing a certain number of trialsand thinking about how many of them lead to a particular outcome. This conclusion is alsovalid for the modified three-prisoner problem discussed by Shimojo and Ichikawa (Shimojo& Ichikawa, 1989) which is more difficult in general than the usual three prisoner problem.Atsuko KOBAYASHI Department of Social Work and Psychology
