City of RochesterPC/Codebook for WindowsYARD -- A required open space on a lot between a lot line and a building or structure which is unoccupied andunobstructed from grade to the sky, except for the following permitted obstructions:A. Accessory uses, subject to the limitations of § 115-87.B. Statuary, arbors, trellises and barbecue stoves.C. Awnings and canopies.D. Bay windows and balconies projecting not more than thirty-six (36) inches from an exterior wall for a distance notmore than one-third (1/3) of the length of such wall; provided that such projections shall come entirely within planesdrawn from the main corners of the building at an interior angle of twenty-two and one-half degrees (22½°) with thewall in question.E. Chimneys, flues, belt courses, leaders, silis, pilasters, lintels, ornamental features, cornices, eaves, gutters and the likeprojecting not more than eighteen (18) inches from an exterior wall.F. Fire escapes or outside stairways projecting from an exterior wall not more than three (3) feet.G. Flagpoles.H. Nonmechanical laundry drying equipment, except in front yards.I. Off-street parking and loading, but only as expressly authorized in §§ 115-87 and 115-90.J. Terraces.K. Recreational equipment, except in front yards.L. Solar collectors. [Added 9-27-1983, Ord. 83-396]YARD, FRONT -- A yard extending across the entire front of the lot and measured between the front lot line of the lotand the front line of the building, or any projection thereof other than those expressly permitted by the definition of"yard" above. See also "lot line, front" with respect to corner lots.YARD LINE, FRONT -- A line drawn parallel to a front lot line at a distance therefrom equal to the depth of therequired front yard.YARD LINE, REAR -- A line drawn parallel to a rear lot line at a distance therefrom equal to the depth of the requiredrear yard.YARD LINE, SIDE -- A line drawn parallel to a side lot line at a distance therefrom equal to the depth of the requiredside yard.YARD, OTHER -- Any yard except a front yard.
