Abstract
The paper presents short description of the TAURON Group and new power unit on natural gas.
TAURON Polska Energia S.A., previously called Energetyka Południe S.A., was established on
6 December 2006 in connection with the implementation of the “Program for the Energy Sector” adopted by
the Council of Ministers. The program involved establishment of four large business entities that would
consolidate both distributors and producers of energy. Today, TAURON Group is one of the largest business
entities in Poland with the capital of approximately PLN 14 billion. The holding employs over 28 thousand
people.
The strategy assumes implementation of significant investments in the development of the Group’s core
business. Until 2012, the construction of new power units (on coal, natural gas and renewable energy sources)
with a total capacity exceeding 3,000 MW will begin, leading to operating cost savings due to more efficient
electricity production and, consequently, to a reduction in the CO 2 emissions. Between 2013 and 2020, the
key strategic emphasis will be on the growth and expansion of the Group’s operations.
TAURON Group has been implementing its strategic investment programme. A major part of the
investment budget will be spent on the construction of power unit in Stalowa Wola power plant. New power
unit 400 MWe and 265 MWt will be the largest natural gas unit in Poland. Thanks to new Technologies with
reduced CO 2 emissions, natural gas power generation will be more environmentally friendly. TAURON
Group is looking into the future.
