Popis poljoprivrede 2010 Agricultural Census 2010METHODOLOGICAL EXPLANATIONS (from the Typology Handbook)The methodology used when drafting this publication, and in general for the SO coefficientcalculation, economic size of holding, as well as type of farming (agricultural production) wastaken from the Typology Handbook, and we would like to present its parts.1. BASIC PRINCIPLES AND DEFINITIONSThe basic principles to be followed by the Typology Handbook are:• Simplification• Harmonisation between the Member States. The Community typology of agricultural holdings is a uniform classification of holdings inthe European Union based on their type of farming (type of agricultural production) andeconomic size. Determining these two elements is based on the SO of the various types ofagricultural production. In addition, holdings can be classified also according to theimportance of the OGA (other gainful activities) of the holding. The typology is arranged in away that homogeneous groups of holdings can be assembled in a greater or lesser degree ofaggregation. The definitions are as follows:a) The "standard output" (SO), of an agricultural product (crop or livestock) is the averagemonetary value of the agricultural output at farm-gate price. The SO excludes directpayments, value added tax and taxes on products. The Member States calculate regional SOcoefficients for each product as average values over the reference period.b) The "economic size of a holding" is the value of its total SO. It is the sum of theindividual SO of all the agricultural products present on the holding, expressed in Euro.According to the Commission Regulation (EC) No 1242/2008 of 8 December 2008 there are14 economic size classes.c) The "type of farming of a holding" is the production system of a holding which ischaracterised by the relative contribution of different enterprises to the holding's total SO.Depending on the amount of detail required, there are three nested levels of type of farming:9 general types, 21 principal types and 62 particular types.d) The "importance of the OGA of the holding" is defined as the share of the OGA turnoverin the total turnover of the holding (including direct payments). Depending on this estimatedOGA share, the farms are classified according to three percentage bands (from 0 to 10%,from 10% to 50%, more than 50%).For practical reasons, the classification of farms cannot be based on financial informationrecorded individually for each holding. Therefore, the classification is based on a financialcoefficient calculated as a regional average: the SO, and on the structural information(hectares and heads) collected in the Farm Structure Survey (FSS) and in the FarmAccountancy Data Network (FADN).Zavod za statistiku Crne Gore 21 Statistical Office of Montenegro
