Zato diskurz tolerance znotraj multikulturalizma evro-atlantskih državdeluje kot diskurz »moči in normativnosti« (Wendy Brown, 2006).Ključne besede: multikulturalizem, imigranti, diskurz tolerance, kulturnirasizem, depolitizacijaMulticulturalism and tolerance discourse in the age ofglobalized capitalist production and the re-emergence ofcultural racismThe article deals with the institutionalisation of multicultural policiesand the role of tolerance discourse in the naturalisation of new forms ofmarginalisation and exclusion of racialised others in the metropolitan West.Multicultural policies build upon a symbolic inclusion of the ethnicised otherswho, in the process of their simultaneous racialisation and abjection arerendered culture-specific and culture-bound, while the newly re-furbishedwhite centre remains invisible and universal despite its own cultural specificnorms. The term multicultural thus comes to mean ethnic or non-white,pointing to the selective and essentialized use of culture in what appears tobe a benign talk of multicultural diversity and difference in the West. Emphasisplaced on state-endorsed promotion of multicultural policies thatproduce and construct the subjectivities of third-world immigrants in termsof culturally specific but also insurmountable differences has thus replacedovert biological racism with cultural determinism, while at the same avertingattention from structural inequalities and socio-economic plight affectingthe racialised others in the West’s new economy.
