After ceasing their activity and closing ofMawlawi tekkes in the XX century, for different reasons, theMawlawism continued its life as a religious phenomenon and anintegrative part of the artistic culture of the Balkan populations.Even nowadays some intellectual circles which were influencedby this tariqat can be found.The Naqshbandi tariqat penetrated into the Balkans at the timeof Sultan Fatih. The murid (follower) of Molla <strong>El</strong>ahi (d.896/1491) and Amir Bukhari (d. 922/1516), Lutfullah Uskubi, atthe beginning of the XVI century build up a Naqshbandi tekkein Skopje. But later on, this tariqat found a more fertile soil inBosnia and Herzegovina, and the XVIII and XIX centuries markthe golden period of this tariqat. Sheikh Husein Baba Zukiç (d.1799-1800) and his murids, sticking closely to the principles ofEhli Sunnah, represented this tariqat in Bosnia and Herzegovinaand managed to influence even the highest strata of Bosniansociety.The Khalwati tariqat is the most spread in the Balkans region.The Tekke of Gazi Husrev Beg in Sarajevo, the Halveti tekke ofUzhitse, the Halveti Karabashi tekke of Sarachanes in Prizren,the Halveti-Hayati tekke of Ohrid and the Halveti tekkes ofTirana and <strong>El</strong>basan were among the most active tekkes in theregion. At this period in Ohrid was established the Hayatiyyabranch of the Halveti tariqat while in Albania the Akbashiyya astwo different branches in the Albanian territories.The Qadiri tariqat has had a notable influence in the religious,social and cultural life of the Balkans region. The Qadiri tariqathas been presented in the tekkes of Haji Sinan in Sarajevo,Mitrovica, Prizren, Gjakova, Prishtina, <strong>El</strong>basan, Tirana,Peshkopeja, Dibra. The Qadiri tariqat in Albania has operated incooperation with the noble organizations of akhis forming a newfusion called “akhiqdirism”.The Rifai tariqat has been more active in Kosova, Macedoniaand Albania. Among the most known Rifai tekke are: the Rifaitekke of Gjakova, Skopje, <strong>El</strong>basan, Shkodra, and Tirana.
