MICROBIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY OF THEDEPOSOLS OF MAJDANPEK AND POSSIBILITYOF SURVIVAL SEEDLINGS ON ITVesna Golubović Ćurguz, Dragana Dražić, MiloradVeselinović, Zoran MiletićInstitute of Forestry, BelgradeAbstract:Surface mining, as a method of exploitation of mineral andother raw materials, has been increasingly used throughout theRepublic of Serbia. The newly formed soils, obtained by overburdenremoval during surface mining, are referred to as deposols ortechnogene soils. They are soils whose deep cross section consists oflayers of different lithological composition of unsystematically dumpedsoil. The physical properties of the deposol are characterised by thelight texture content (sands or loamy sands) or heavy (clays, loams orsilty loams). These soils are also characterised by the highconcentration of the soil acidity, high concentration of the toxic metals(Cu, Pb)and they do not contain organic matter. The deposols ofcopper mine in Majdanpek are characterised by the high variability ofthe properties and extremely weak microbial activity. Based on theresults of our researches that caracteristics can be the limiting factor inthe recultivation, and the areas in the vicinity of mines the planting ofthe plants inoculated by the mycorrhizal fungi is necessary, since theseareas are characterized by the high content of heavy metals, and lownatural inoculated potentia. By the inoculation of the plant species bymycorrhizal fungi the root system of the seedlings adapts to the extremesoil conditions, which results in the increased adoption of the nutritivematter, by which the better growth of plants is achieved, to aconsiderably greater extent in comparison with the non-mycorrhizalfungi.Key words: deposol/ microbiological activity/seedlings/mycorrhizal fungi~ 368 ~
