about 20-40 years after their establishment and to evaluateproduction potentials of studied sites by means of stands growth.2. EMPIRICAL MATERIALOn the plots, which were afforested in the years 1957-1965,experimental plots were established and measured in 1995.Measurements were aimed at finding number of trees according totree species, their mean diameters, heights and age of tree species. Inthe locality Hrhov 4 experimental plots were established. All of themwere located on southern slope with slope gradient 18-20º and at thealtitude 300-350 m. Age of studied stands was 30-35 years. In thelocality Periská there were 3 experimental plots, all on southeastern– southwestern slope with slope gradient 25-30º and the altitude 350-400 m. Age of stands was 20-38 years.3. RESULTS3.1 Numbers of trees and tree species compositionTotal numbers of trees per 1 ha dropped with higher age ofstands in the same way in both localities, namely from about 15,000trees at the age of 20 years to 2,000 trees at the age of 38 years (Fig.2). The examined stands are mixed of 3-6 tree species with variousproportions:Austrian pine (Pinus nigra Arnold) 10 – 76%,Scots pine (Pinus silvestris L.) 5 – 61%,Manna ash (Fraxinus ornus L.) 0 – 64%,Mahaleb cherry (Pruns mahaleb L.) 0 – 23%,Silver lime (Tilia tomentosa) 0 – 11%Turkey oak (Quercus cerris L.) 0 – 8%,Pedunculate oak (Quercus robur L.) 0 – 21%,Whitebeam (Sorbus aria (L.) Crantz) 0 – 2%,European beech (Fagus silvatica L.) 0 – 5%It is obvious from the given overview that Austrian pine, Scotspine and Manna ash have decisive proportions.~ 362 ~
