‣ Sites that are part of the framework projects for recovery ofthe most vulnerable areas of Slovakia and the attenuation ofimpact of anthropogenic activity on agricultural land andrural areas (wind, water and soil erosion),‣ The establishment of anti-erosion strips on borders ofsloping land in particular, to replace the balks that in brokenterrain or topography in addition to the property boundariesplay an important role in protection from erosion.c) Land, which is suitable for agricultural production with respect totheir productive potential, but they should be afforested mainly forenvironmental reasons such as:‣ Implementation of the territorial system of ecologicalstability in a particular locality,‣ The creation of new, reconstruction and expansion ofexisting windbreaks,‣ Planting, renovation and expansion of streamside stand, treeand scrub vegetation,‣ Increasing the representation of the total forest area withinintensively used agricultural land.The objectives of this program of afforestation are of theeconomic and ecological nature. The total production potential ofland should have increased especially with regard to improvement ofthe ecological stability and, consequently, the environment.Implementation of the Program, in particular public beneficialfunctions was the reason why the costs for afforestation werereimbursed from the state budget. Lack of funds meant that theprogram was canceled in 1999. By that time 667 ha of private landwas afforested and nearly 3000 ha of area with cross timber has beensettled.1.1 Financial support for program of afforestation of nonforestlandEU contribution to the afforestation of non-forest land toindividual countries is governed by Council Regulation (EEC) No.2080/92.
