THE IMPORTANCE OF COOPERATION WITHLOCAL AUTHORITIES FOR PROMOTION THEECOREMEDIATION TECHNOLOGIESNina Globovnik, Ana Vovk Korže, Mojca KokotInternational ecoremdiation center, Faculty of Arts, Universityof Maribor, SloveniaAbstract: Since the invention of the first steam engine in the secondhalf of the 18th century we have been witnesses of the constantmodifications, improvements and new inventions which in differentways facilitate our work. The Industrial Revolution was a majordevelopmental leap in the technology of that time but about theconsequences they have brought to environment we are aware ofonly recently. By every step today we can see the effects caused byman with his improper conduct towards the environment andtherefore the greatest challenges of our time is to create a balancebetween man and nature. Future technological innovations relatedto the elimination of environmental issues will be for current andfuture generations just as revolutionary as it was the invention of thesteam engine in the second half of the 18th century. Ecoremediationtechnology in accordance with natural processes, reduce andeliminate pollution at the various sources of pollution are being usedrecently for the field of security and protection of the naturalenvironment as well as the revitalization of degraded areas. Theyare suitable mainly because they do not require large financialinvestments and because they work in accordance with naturalprocesses. The most important thing during the actualecoremediation technologies and the expertise is also participationof the local institucions. Influential villagers, politicians and localresidents have to work together to protect the environment and thisis crucial for the successful revitalization of brownfield sites. In thispaper we present an example of good practice in municipalityPoljčane where a part of their financial resources and time devotedto activities related with environment protection throughecoremediation technologies. The vision of that municipality is tolive in harmony with nature and therefore a part of its assets~ 273 ~
