DEGRADED FOREST RESOURCES OF THEREPUBLIC OF SERBIAJelena MilovanovićFaculty of Applied Ecology Futura, Singidunum UniversityAbstract: Biologically unsustainable forests in the Republic ofSerbia cover about a half of total forest area, which is significantproblem for forestry and environmental protection science andpractice. Forest degradation degree can be defined followingspecific parameters of forest stand quality, such as standpreservation status, stand origin, stand canopy, erosion and similar.With the aim of forest degradation gradation scale definition fromenvironmental point of view, and spatial zoning of the Republic ofSerbia according to degraded forests share, variability of twoNational Forest Inventory parameters has been studied: standpreservation status (O) and erosion (E). Combination of differentvalues of these two parameters was a basic point for definition offorest degradation gradation scale in Serbia. According to middleand strong degraded forests share, two zones are identified: Zone 1 –middle share of degraded forests (Southwestern and SoutheasternSerbia) and Zone 2 – strong share of degraded forests (SouthernSerbia). Ecoremediation plan for middle and strong degraded forestsis developed according to literature data and forest managementplan data for identified forest areas.Key words: degraded forests/ gradation/ zoning/ ecoremediationUVODShvatanje pojma degradacije i degradiranih šuma se menjalokroz istorijski period razvoja šumarstva.
