WASTE MANAGEMENT AND MODELRECYCLING YARD OF MUNICIPALMAJDANPEKAna Poštić, Mirjana Aranđelović, Uroš Radojević,Margareta Žarkov KovačevićFaculty of Applied ecology Futura, Singidunum UniversityAbstract: Majdanpek municipality with 17 settlements does not havea quality solution for the disposal of waste from the whole area ofthe municipality.Many years of uncontrolled disposal of waste on the illegal dumpsites on the coast of Danube led to its pollution, destruction ofwildlife, changes in the properties and categories of the river,contagious and infectious disease of population.A particular problem is the fact that 10 settlements of municipalityMajdanpek are located in the National park Đerdap, including theprotected zone, so it is necessary to solve the problems withunregulated waste dumps in an adequate manner.As the Majdanpek municipalities are jagged with the averagedistance between the two largest settlements about 50 km, themunicipality is virtually divided into two parts Majdanpek and DonjiMilanovac, it is necessary to organize such system which wouldreduce costs in the collection and disposal of waste, while at thesame time to maximize the efficiency of communal arrangement.Since a large number of rural dumps are located by the river flows,they represent potential sources of infection, and require extensiveeducation and action to raise awareness of the local population inorder to prevent further pollution of water flows, or extract rawrecyclable materials in order to reduce the total amount of wastethat is going to landfill.River Danube was noted as one of the most polluted river in Europejust in its course through Serbia, so a wider international impact ofprotection will be achieved.Key words: disposal of waste/ illegal dump sites/ transfer station/Majdanpek municipality~ 234 ~
