MONITORING WATER CHEMISTRY OFSOURCE "SUMICE”-KIKINDATijana Čoporda Mastilović 1Vesna Ristić Vakanjac 2 , Ivan Matić 2 , SlobodanVujasinović 2 Stanko Sorajić 21 Faculty for Applied Ecology Futura, Singidunum University2 Faculty of Mining and Geology, University of BelgradeAbstract: Municipality of Kikinda spatially belongs to the northernpart of Banat and covers an area of 782 km 2 of mostly arable andfertile land. According to the 2002 registar the municipality ofKikinda has 67,002 residents, and the city alone has 41,935inhabitants.Central city’s water supply system is supplied with drinking waterthrough 14 wells, 10 wells from the spring "Sumice", 2 wells in thefactory "Toza Markovic" and 2 wells located in the city (the area ofLakes and Masaryk). The total projected yield, of all 14 wells is 260l/s. Water supply to sorrounding local communities is carried outthrough 20 wells with a total projected yield of 313 l/s.In regard to the contents of chemical composition of drinking water,the water from all observed wells in the whole area is hygienicallyunfit or does not correspond to the Regulation on hygienic quality ofdrinking water. It should be noted here that a significant increase oforganic matter makes the process of water chlorination moredifficult, creating trihalometanes. Also, it is noted that the contents ofammonia has increased, while the state of microbiological qualityoccasionally deviates significantly in relation to the statedRegulation.Having in mind the whole issue of the given municipality, this paperwill present the groundwater chemistry analisys regarding the areaand time of the central source "Sumice”.Key words: ground water/ quality/ changes/ pollution~ 184 ~
