SPATIAL DEGRADATION CAUSED BYINDUSTRY IN REPUBLIC OF SERBIADragan Škobalj, Zoran JakovljevFaculty of Applied Ecology Futura, Singidunum UniversityAbstracts: Industrial production in Serbia includes the production ofcement and other building materials, fertilizers, electrical equipment, wood processing, paper products, leather and fur, rubber, textiles, food products and so on. Heavy industry in the Republic of Serbia ismainly related to mining, including manufacturing, metallurgical, chemical industry and others. Large spatial degradations caused byoil refinery in Pancevo, Mining and Smetling Complex Bor, stealproduction in Smederevo etc. They are mainly improperlytemporarily stored in the factory circles. Preliminary IPPCincludes 168 facilities issued integrated permits. They are thefacilities that produce the largest quantity of hazardous and nonhazardousindustrial waste. Evidence about type and amount ofwaste produced in a tehnological processes is not run by wastegeneratores. This data is not relevant because of amounts of wastegenerated without evidence by some facilities. There is noenvironmentally storage location for hazardous waste in Serbia andsome of amounts are exports. There is a plan to build a stationaryplant for the physical-chemical treatment of hazardous waste.Bioremediation procedures and solidification of hazardous wastewere applied in recent time. High degree of industrial waste per unitof product, irrational use of raw materials and low energy efficiencyindustry are the most important problem.Key words: industry/ hazardous waste/ historic pollution/remediation~ 172 ~
