Processes of concentration in the Polish food industry<br />

Abstract<br />

An important feature of development of food industry in the last years is a<br />

growing share of production in big industrial plants. It happens so mainly, because<br />

of the concentrations processes that have place in the food industry. The<br />

biggest concentrations have been taking place in meat, milk and cereals processing<br />

industry. A major role in this industry plays transnational corporations which<br />

take control over the Polish firms. Acquisitions by foreign investors have had<br />

various influences on the overtaken firms. Research results indicate that decreasing<br />

profitability and net income per employee was an effect of acquisitions in the<br />

majority of the overtaken firms. It shows that western investors have had other<br />

priorities than increase of profitability and efficiency of operations.
