– be familiar with all detectors, alarms and communication systems<br />

– be familiar with position and use of safety equipment<br />

– ensure that first-aid material is ready for use, especially those for burnings and fractures<br />

– take care of all communication devices with ship and shore<br />

– be capable to prepare engine for emergency as soon as possible<br />

Watchkeeping<br />

Duty engineer must take special care of:<br />

– completing of all tasks, orders, special works and regulations under his responsibility<br />

– Instruments and control systems<br />

– procedures for pollution prevention according to local regulations<br />

– bilges condition.<br />

Engineer on duty should<br />

– In case of an emergency switch on the alarm when necessary and undertake all measures to avoid damage on the ship, cargo<br />

and crew,<br />

– follow the needs of officer in charge of the cargo, and additional needs about ballast and stability of the ship,<br />

– regularly make tours around the installations to avoid failures and accidents as much as possible,<br />

– record satisfactory all adjustments,renewals, repairs and etc. during a watch.<br />
