6.2. feed valves
Before doing any boiler control, the boiler must be out of service. If steam plant has more boilers then boiler in question must be
isolated from fuel and steam.
Talk with engineers about procedures for inner and outer inspection of the boiler, important items which have to be discussed about
are:
– deposits on the heating surfaces which reduce heat transfer causing burning of the pipe sometimes
– corrosion occurrence
– wear or damage of the boiler armature (cocks, valves, safety valves, level indicators etc.)
– generally condition of the surfaces where hot gases are passing through.
If the boiler is in service from time to time, it is possible that safety valve is not inspected. But during periodical inspection and
cleaning valves have to be opened and inspected. Safety valve must be checked on the proper releasing pressure by authorised
surveyor. The mechanism for manual pressure release must be also checked. Check all passings on the level indicators and blow
them with compressed air if necessary.
