14.2. feed water
15. Treat the feed water
according to test and duty
16. Control the condensate
coming from heating coils
and other heaters
17. Control the work of all
indicators and alarms
related to boiler
18. Control the feed water
system, and water levels
19. Make soot blowing
Before starting steam system (piping or engine), all spaces must be dry properly warmed. The system must be drained before use,
and steam releasing very slow in the beginning. Very small steam quantity in the beginning will push condensate through drain
system and heat all system as well.
When we have working temperature and all system is drained main stop valve can be open easily. Water in the system is product of
condensation, especially on the cold surfaces. The water can not be compressed. When the steam enters the system, steam is
condensate so the mixture activate in the very low pressure (high vacuum). Water enters vacuum spaces very quickly what can
cause damage. That phenomenon is called »water hammer«.
Piping changes length during temperature change, so the compensators must be checked.
Anyhow steam releasing must be done very slowly.
