Summary
Dynamic slides for trigonometry
Katriin Orason
For the leaners trigonometry is one of the most difficult subjects in school maths due to
its volume and complexity. Trigonometry is difficult because it is abstract and there are
lots of formulas. In order to make the subject more comprehensible, trigonometry has to
be made more specific for the learner. It can be done via visualising the terms and links
in trigonometry.
The main goal of the present Master`s thesis was to compile study material „Dynamic
Slides for Teaching Trigonometry“. All slides have been prepared pursuant to subjects
of narrow maths trigonometry presented in current public study program. While the
slides can also be used wider – to introduce or revise trigonometry in basic or vocational
school or university.
To prepare the slides the author of the paper has chosen school software program
GeoGebra. It is a freeware program, in Estonian, available in the internet and easy to
use. Additionally the program can be used either web-based or downloaded in your
computer. The choice was supported by the fact that the program is becoming more and
more popular with the teachers.
The final thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical work and dynamic slides.
Theoretical part composes of three chapters. The first chapter explains the place of
trigonometry in new maths study program and gives the subjects taught in trigonometry.
The second chapter introduces the program GeoGebra and describes some possibilities
of GeoGebra used by the author.
The third chapter describes the slides made in work process and the opportunities to use
them. Each slide is thoroughly described, what are the possibilities to use the slides and
how the author sees their usage by a teacher.
As practical part of the work there are 13 dynamic slides. All dynamic slides are
attached to the electronical part of the Master`s thesis on CD.
