This meeting was organized jointly by the Institute of Organic
Chemistry and Biochemistry of the ASCR, the Academy of Sciences
of the Czech Republic, and the Israeli Embassy in Prague on May
with the most knowledgeable experts in the fields of biological
chemistry, structural biology and material sciences.
The invited speakers included four current Israeli Nobel Prize
Laureates in Chemistry: Ada Yonath (Weizmann Instiute, Rehovot,
Nobel Prize 2009), Aaron Ciechanover (Technion, Nobel Prize 2004),
and Dan Shechtman (Technion, Nobel Prize 2011) and other
extraordinary scientific personalities from the USA, Israel, Germany
and the Czech Republic, accompanied by several of their inspiring
and talented students.
lively discussions with students and the public at CERGE-EI (Center
Thomas Sargant) gave a lecture on Current Macroeconomics and
Reality, in which they discussed the current economic crisis and
its impact on academic economy. Harvard Professor Philippe Aghion
discussed two of his recent papers, Cyclical Fiscal Policy, Credit
Constraints and Industry Growth and Monetary Policy, Liquidity
and Growth.
Diversity and Local Contexts: Urban Space,
Borders and Migration
This is the title of an international conference organized jointly
by the IUAES Commission on Urban Anthropology and the Institute
of Ethnology of the ASCR at Villa Lanna in Prague 25–26 May,
2012. This event focused on a series of meetings held in different
places under the auspices of IUAES and within events organized
by UNESCO-MOST in which the Institute of Ethnology regularly
participates. The meeting discussed topics such as, how a city’s
image is influenced by specific broad contexts; how cities exceed
their own borders and how the city borders are affected by outside
influences; and how foreign migration influences the image of
a city and changes its borders.
Woman and Politics (1890–1938)
The aim of this international conference was to delimit and define
the space for women to assert themselves in public affairs and
politics during the last three decades of the existence of the Austro-
-Hungarian Empire, under the First Czechoslovak Republic and
Austrian Republic. It was organized by the Chamber of Deputies of
Parliament of the Czech Republic, the Centre of Central European
Studies (the joint department of the Masaryk Institute and Archive of
the ASCR and CEVRO Institute College) and the Anna and Jaroslav
Krejčí Research Endowment Fund. It was held under the auspices of
Miroslava Němcová, the chairwoman of the Chamber of Deputies of
Parliament of the Czech Republic.
Redakce Akademického bulletinu přijala nabídku Mezinárodního
českého klubu, aby v rámci pravidelného pořadu Hovory
bez hranic, který se koná už od roku 1995 v Městské knihovně
ab
44
v Praze, uspořádala besedu (Nejen) O vědě a novinářství. Hosté
si 11. června 2012 poslechli povídání šéfredaktorky Akademického
bulletinu Mariny Hužvárové s autorkou knihy Skrytá poselství vědy
Sylvou Daníčkovou a rostlinným fyziologem Janem Krekulem
z Ústavu experimentální botaniky AV ČR.
Pořad doprovázel na klavír i zpěvem Láďa Vrchota a zpestřila
jej také fotoprezentace portrétů významných českých vědců zpovídaných
Sylvou Daníčkovou a zařazených v knize, dále záběry
A protože ani věda není
omezena hranicemi, povídání s vědeckou tematikou sem bezpochyby
patří.
