ANNOTATION
Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava
FACULTY OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING AND INFORMATION
TECHNOLOGY
Degree Course: ... TELECOMMUNICATIONS
Author: Bc. Martin Rusňák
Diploma Thesis: Modern technologies in biomedical engineering
Supervisor: Ing. Marek Kukučka, PhD.
Submission Date: May 2013
Key words: Voltage map, acupuncture point, calibration & measurement, skin,
stimulation
In the diploma thesis I focused on expanding the knowledge of acupuncture points by
measuring voltage maps of skin. Thesis consists of two parts, in the first part I calibrated
voltage/impedance measuring device and I tried to reveal possible errors related to this
device. I measured towards the base electrode, on R element and RC element (as
a substitution of skin impedance) and I did not detect any drawbacks of this device. On the
grounds of previous measurements I designed and constructed impedance phantom, special
hardware, useful for fast calibration and verification of measuring probe and the whole
measuring device. Subsequently I tested measuring device with this calibration phantom
and I did not discover any drawbacks as well. In the second part of my thesis, I measured
variously treated samples of pig skin with voltage/impedance measurer. After that
I focused on selected acupuncture point on human hand which I localized first and then
I experimented with stimulation of this point and how preparation of skin with various
means affects measurement of voltage map in the area of that acupuncture point.
