As local hosts and Chairpersons of 4th BBBB Conference, it is our great pleasure, to invite you to participate in 4th BBBB Conference entitled NEW
TRENDS IN DRUG DISCOVERY, DELIVERY SYSTEMS AND LABORATORY DIAGNOSTICS that will be held in Bled in autumn 2011.
The Scientific Committee has not only made a special effort to compile a program which incorporates the interests and orientations expressed by participants
of preceding BBBB Conference, but also to include new topics at the cutting edge in the pharmaceutical sciences. This year it is the first time that three
different scientific fields are joining - Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Technology, and Laboratory Diagnostics. The program will include actual aspects
of complex designing of effective and safe drugs, multifactorial approach to delivery system development and diagnostic opportunities in laboratory medicine.
The program was conceived to be particularly attractive for pharmaceutical scientists and other to biomedicine oriented researchers and professionals.
In putting together the Conference Programme, we were especially sensitive to the need of pharmaceutical and biomedical scientists in academia, industry
and laboratory to work hand in hand towards better understanding of the diseases etiology, towards the development of new drugs and diagnostic markers,
and towards the creation of new therapeutic strategies. A major goal of the Conference is therefore to facilitate and reinforce contacts and networking between
academia and profession, basic and clinical researchers and patients as well. To guarantee the quality of future research and new practical applications
in our field, exchange and discussion between experienced colleagues, young scientists and professionals must be enthusiastically promoted. For this reason
during 4th BBBB Conference the young scientist competition will be organized.
Finally and importantly, the Organizing Committee of the 4th BBBB has decided to substantially reduce the registration fee for Young Scientists. Therefore
we hope that in spite of not easy economic situation, this will motivate you to participate in the Conference.

Brief history of the event
The BBBB International Conferences have been initiated under the auspices of EUFEPS by the joint proposal of four
founder countries’ associations: the Estonian Academical Society of Pharmacy and the Finnish Pharmaceutical Society
(Baltic), the Hungarian Society for Pharmaceutical Sciences (Balaton), the Slovenian Pharmaceutical Society (Bled), and
the Turkish Pharmaceutical Technology Scientists’ Association (Bosphorus) and have been decided to organize conferences
biennially on the shore of a lake or on the seacoast of founder organization countries. The main purposes were to
support young, bright and future promising scientists from these regions, to create close scientific contacts between
founding and participant countries’ scientists and to share the state-of-the art level information during scientific program
covering all important aspects of the pharmaceutical sciences. These goals were successfully implemented in the organization
of three past conferences: 1st BBBB Balaton International Conference in Siofok jointly organized by Hungary and Slovenia
in 2005; 2nd BBBB Baltic International Conference in Tartu jointly organized by Estonia and Finland in 2007 and 3rd
BBBB Bosphorus International Conference on Pharmaceutical Sciences in Antalya organized by Turkish Pharmaceutical
Technology Scientists’ Association in 2009. Abstracts were published as a Supplement of European Journal of Pharmaceutical
Sciences.
Aims and scopes
The meeting will focus on important new achievements in laboratory diagnostic, medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical technology, what is reflected
through the main themes of the conference. This 4th BBBB, like its predecessors, once again will offer opportunities to exchange scientific ideas and create
networks between people from academia, industry and biomedicine profession as well as between young and already established scientists and professionals.
Main topics of the conference are:
• Recent strategies in drug delivery formulation: from materials to medicine
• Nanotechnology and nanotoxicity
• Translational medicine: from basic research to new diagnostic and treatment approaches
• All aspects of medicinal chemistry including drug design, discovery and development
• Methods, instrumentation and technologies in pharmacy and laboratory medicine
• Genomics and proteomics in diagnosis and treatment
