The article analyzes critically M. Albrow’s attempt to make social and political theory by
using historical methods and the theory of the ages. It shows the advantages and the
limits of this approach in the investigation of the problems of globalization, and
questions the construct “global age” and the characteristics, which the author attributes
to it. The article examines Albrow’s reasons to accept social as the opposite of political,
and traces out the consequences of the understanding on the matter of social
relations, which this point of view presents too one-sided. This position gives me the
reason to put under critical analysis the understanding of the author about the world
society, inequalities and stratifications in it.
