Resumé
Od 9. do 13. apríla 1204 nedobyli účastníci štvrtej krížovej výpravy vyhlásenej
pápežom Inocentom III. Jeruzalem, ale Konštantínopol, hlavné mesto
kresťanskej Byzantskej ríše. Po trojdňovom plienení z neho urobili centrum
takzvaného Latinského cisárstva na Bospore. Na komentovanie týchto udalostí
sme použili štyroch súčasníkov, dvoch „latinských“ a dvoch byzantských: Dvoma
účastníkmi výpravy boli Martin, opát alsaského kláštora Pairis, a Robert
z Clari, jednoduchý rytier biskupa Pierra z Amiensu. Z byzantského pohľadu
nám podal správu cirkevný hodnostár Nikolaos Mesarites a štátnik a historik
Niketas Choniates. Krížová výprava či dobyvačná vojna? Každopádne tieto
správy ponúkajú dvojaké bezprostredné dobové vnímanie, neovplyvnené his-
