Аница Савић Ребац – преводилац, есејиста, филозоф
The loyal show to God their ardent faith
The faithless press to reach unto their goal
And try to seize the everlasting throne. . .
Two days of light, two nights of pleasant glow
Passed by unmarked, for still the battle raged;
Above are seen the fierce immortal hosts
Piled up in heaps upon the upset plains;
They are all scarred with terrifying wounds
But once they drink th’immortal water there,
Without delay to battle they return.
This scene repeats a thousand thousand times
Throughout the air and over all the plains,
But still the hostile lines unbroken stand.
The spears and swords and flaming arrows too
Are colored bright with the angelic blood;
The smaller and the higher leaders too
Fly all around on flaming cars of light,
Encouraged by the valor of their troops,
They watch the fight and urge their soldiers on;
While many too with savage wounds beset,
Fall headlong from their flaming chariots
Upon the fields between the warring lines,
Where still their troops are pouring forth their blood.
херојски, оштро, изрaзитим jaмбским пeнтaмeтримa. Мaнинг кoристи стрoгу
eнглeску eпску дикциjу, лeксику стaринскoг рaтoвaњa, стaндaрднe eпскe мeтaфoрe.
Тај исти пасус Аница Савић Ребац преводи чак верније оригиналу, јер Манинг
није српски знао довољно добро, стихом који је много суптилнији, мелодичнији,
сa живoписним дeтaљимa и лeксикoм кoja нeбeскoм сукoбу oгрoмних рaзмeрa дaje
рoмaнтичнo-витeшкa oбeлeжja.
And high o’er them in the serenest sky
A cloud, tossed up by two opposed winds,
Impends, divided in two masses huge.
The two angelic hosts were thus arrayed,
Dazzling and dim, and ranged for cruel strife.
The broad celestial space was rent with cries
And warlike music thundering o’er the plains;
Fierce fighting merciless broke out and burnt
Between immortals—dukes on every side
Attack the foe, contending for the prize:
The true archangels to confirm their faith
Before the high Creator, and the rebels
To reach their goal and seize th’almighty throne. . .
Two radiant days, two nights of brightness mild
Both armies fought with equal strength and rage.
There lie immortal warriors on both sides
With wounds all over covered, but a draught
Out of the stream of immortality
Restores their strength, and soon they fight again.
Throughout the air and o’er the plains there are
Duels of angels to be seen that fight
Singly, and do not join the multitude.
Swords, shields are colored with angelic blood.
The dukes are flying on their fiery cars,
