PROF. IOANNIS ROKAS CONGRATULATION FOR THE 50-YEAR
ANNIVERSARY OF THE INSURANCE LAW ASSOCIATION OF SERBIA
Dear Professor Slavnic,
I would like to express to you personally, as well as to your colleagues, my
heartiest and sincere congratulations for the 50 th anniversary of the AIDA Serbia.
Being the liaison person between AIDA World and AIDA Serbia during the last
few years, I know first hand, the insurance law publishing and promoting activities
of your Association. I believe that they have affected and will affect the development
and strengthening of the insurance legal environment in Serbia.
The Insurance Law Review, to which my colleagues of our law firm and I have
contributed on numerous instances, covers the increasing number of important legal issues
and follows the current European and International trends. The focus is on the issues of the
EU insurance regulative activity, models of its applications and interpretation in different
EU member states. Another scope of the Association is the provision of direct or indirect
assistance to the Serbian Regulator addressing the relevant issues of insurance and civil law
and the substantial understanding and harmonization with EU insurance Directives. I was
impressed by the number and diversity of issues it covers in different jurisdictions, including
the analyses of insurance supervision from different theoretical and practical perspectives,
current as well as future trends, insurance consumer protection issues etc.
The Palic Insurance law annual conferences, which I have attended the last few
years, attract our colleagues from many neighboring and European countries, while
the interest for them has been continuously increasing, despite the current crisis of
the insurance market in Serbia.
Remarkable is the regular and active participation of AIDA Serbia in conferences
and panels organized by AIDA Europe.
Needless to point out the importance of the insurance law reviews, commentaries,
scientific studies, analyses and reviews of judgments and arbitration awards for the
development of insurance legal theory and practice in Serbia. Recently, these activities
have additional practical importance in relation to the drafting of the Chapter of the
Serbian Civil Code on insurance contract.
In my point of view the AIDA Serbian Chapter has significant and profound
activities, additionally appreciated given the size and development of the Serbian
private insurance market. I wish you to continue the valuable efforts and being
supported and joined by new members and colleagues.
