9.3. Students’ Activities<br />

In the reporting period the students have been actively involved in the activities of the University Student<br />

Union, as members of the Student Union branch at the Faculty level. Their representatives in the Faculty<br />

Council are five students. In the academic year 2009/2010 the students took part in the 13th University<br />

Student Fair which was held in March 2010, as well as sports activities organized within activities of „Poljos“,<br />

sports club led by Krešimir Ižaković who is lecturer in charge of the course Physical Education at the Faculty<br />

of Agriculture. In the university championship the students won golden medals in swimming (J. Čutura);<br />

basketball (J. Mitrović, R. Poreti, V. Miljković, M. Radaković, I. Božić, I. Komadina, Š. Lučin, D. Mašić), indoor<br />

soccer (V. Subotić, J. Đanko, T. Amidžić, D. Mikulić, I. Varžić, M. Lazar, Ž. Novoselac, I. Šafran, I. Gudelj) and<br />

beach valleyball (N. Jurić, D. Pišćak).<br />

The student hosted colleagues from Egge University,Turkey during their one month internship.<br />

For extraordinary achievements Ivana Ravlić and Andrea Dominković received Rector’s Award.<br />

9. 4. Scientifi c and Professional Activities<br />

The Faculty of Agriculture has been endorsed to carry out PhD study in biotechnical sciences (field of<br />

Agriculture) entitled „Agricultural Sciences“, comprising the following: Agroeconomics, Agrochemistry –<br />

Soil and Plant, Animal Nutrition and Forage Technology, Hunting and Chinology, Plant Selection and Seed<br />

Science, Cattle Breeding, Technical Systems in Agriculture and Plant Protection. Altogether five postgraduate<br />

professional studies have been carried out too. These are: Quality and Safety of Animal Products, Production<br />

Systems in Cattle Breeding, Pig Breeding, Farm Management, Plant Protection. In the reporting period 95<br />

students enrolled in the above mentioned PhD study and 21 students in postgraduate professional studies.<br />

Altogether 27 students are still enrolled in postgraduate studies within so called „old programmes“. In the<br />

reporting period two Master theses have been approved, one MSc Thesis and 11 PhD theses. In the past<br />

academic year one student won his Master degree in Professional postgraduate study programme; three<br />

students won their MSc degree, 13 students defended their PhD theses.<br />

In this reporting period different scientific and research activities have been carried out within 44 research<br />

projects, 2 scientific programmes and and one technology project supported by the Ministry of Science,<br />

Education and Sports. Altogether 20 young researchers are actively involved in the project activities. There<br />

are also 12 projects supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management (VIP projects)<br />

and three more projects supported by the same Ministry. Altogehter five development projects were realized<br />

in cooperation with the Osijek-Baranja County, three projects in cooperation with the Croatian Food Agency.<br />

There are also research activities within 13 different projects in cooperation with the economy sector.<br />

Scientific and research activities resulted in publishing of more than 100 papers, cited in referential bases<br />

such as a1 and a2. In the reporting period the representatives of the Faculty took part in numerous national<br />

and international scientific and professional meetings. All relevant data are presented in Chapter 5 of this<br />

Report.<br />

The Scientific Forum has been established by the decision of the Faculty Council in 2007. At the level of this<br />

Forum assistants, young researchers and postgraduate students can improve their professional engagement<br />

and can present their achievements. Basic task of the Forum is to promote scientific and professional<br />

activities and to enable postgraduate students (PhD) to accumulate ECTS in core and elective activities. In<br />

the academic year 2009/2010 the Forum served as organizer of numerous meetings; series of three round<br />

table discussions. Slavica Antunović, Ranko Gantner, Nataša Romanjek Fajdić, Ivanka Reinhardt, Darko<br />

Dimić, Kristina Habschied, Tihana Marček, Branimir Mikić and Dragana Kocevski actively participated in<br />

the round table «Microorganisms in different ecosystems: water, soil, food». Another round table entitled<br />

«Contemporary approach to food quality improvement» was represented by Boris Lukić, Manuela Grčević,<br />

Nikola Raguž, Daria Jovičić, Senka Majić, Valentina Pavić and Mirjana Martić. Professor Robert Burns from<br />

Iowa State University, Ivana Majkovčan, Tihomir Jović, Dario Brdarić and Boris Lukić took part in the third<br />

Poljoprivredni fakultet u Osijeku<br />
