ਿਕਉ ਨ ਹਿਰ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੇਿਹ ਮੂਰਖ ਿਨਲਾਜ ਰੇ ॥੧॥
िकउ न हिर को नामु लेिह मूरख िनलाज रे ॥१॥
ki-o na har ko naam layhi moorakh nilaaj ray. ||1||
Why don't you chant the Name of the Lord, you shameless fool? ||1||
ਰਾਮ ਭਗਿਤ ਹੀਏ ਆਿਨ ਛਾਿਡ ਦੇ ਤੈ ਮਨ ਕੋ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
राम भगित हीए आिन छािड दे तै मन को मानु ॥
raam bhagat hee-ay aan chhaad day tai man ko maan.
Let devotional worship of the Lord enter into your heart, and abandon the intellectualism of
your mind.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਇਹ ਬਖਾਿਨ ਜਗ ਮਿਹ ਿਬਰਾਜੁ ਰੇ ॥੨॥੪॥
नानक जन इह बखािन जग मिह िबराजु रे ॥२॥४॥
naanak jan ih bakhaan jag meh biraaj ray. ||2||4||
O Servant Nanak, this is the way to live in the world. ||2||4||

Shalok, Ninth Mehl:
ਗੁਨ ਗੋਿਬੰਦ ਗਾਇਓ ਨਹੀ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਕਾਰਥ ਕੀਨੁ ॥
गुन गोिबद गाइओ नही जनमु अकारथ कीनु ॥
gun gobind gaa-i-o nahee janam akaarath keen.
If you do not sing the Praises of the Lord, your life is rendered useless.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਿਰ ਭਜੁ ਮਨਾ ਿਜਹ ਿਬਿਧ ਜਲ ਕਉ ਮੀਨੁ ॥੧॥
कहु नानक हिर भजु मना िजह िबिध जल कउ मीनु ॥१॥
kaho naanak har bhaj manaa jih biDh jal ka-o meen. ||1||
Says Nanak, meditate, vibrate upon the Lord; immerse your mind in Him, like the fish in
the water. ||1||
ਿਬਿਖਅਨ ਿਸਉ ਕਾਹੇ ਰਿਚਓ ਿਨਮਖ ਨ ਹੋਿਹ ਉਦਾਸੁ ॥
िबिखअन िसउ काहे रिचओ िनमख न होिह उदासु ॥
bikhi-an si-o kaahay rachi-o nimakh na hohi udaas.
Why are you engrossed in sin and corruption? You are not detached, even for a moment!
