MOBILITY OF TEACHERS: A EXAMPLE FROM DALMATIA<br />

The authors of this work had conducted a research on professional mobility of<br />

biology and chemistry teachers. The sample includes 200 teachers of biology and chemistry<br />

employed in primary and secondary schools in four Dalmatian counties –the Dubrovnik,<br />

Split, Šibenik and the Zadar County.<br />

The results of the empirical research had shown that teachers of biology and<br />

chemistry had achieved a considerable vertical educational and a professional<br />

intergenerational mobility. There was an insignificant number of interviewees that achieved<br />

intergenerational professional mobility during their active life (2,5 percent). By means of<br />

comparison between the first employment and the current teaching job, the professional<br />

intragenerational mobility was established at every seventh teacher (male and female, 13,5<br />

percent). At least two thirds of interviewees had shown horizontal iterorganizational<br />

mobility, and a little more than one tenth an intragenerational vertical professional<br />

promotion (13 %; carrier mobility)<br />
