ITERGEERATIOAL AD ITRAGEERATIOAL PROFESSIOAL
MOBILITY OF TEACHERS: A EXAMPLE FROM DALMATIA
The authors of this work had conducted a research on professional mobility of
biology and chemistry teachers. The sample includes 200 teachers of biology and chemistry
employed in primary and secondary schools in four Dalmatian counties –the Dubrovnik,
Split, Šibenik and the Zadar County.
The results of the empirical research had shown that teachers of biology and
chemistry had achieved a considerable vertical educational and a professional
intergenerational mobility. There was an insignificant number of interviewees that achieved
intergenerational professional mobility during their active life (2,5 percent). By means of
comparison between the first employment and the current teaching job, the professional
intragenerational mobility was established at every seventh teacher (male and female, 13,5
percent). At least two thirds of interviewees had shown horizontal iterorganizational
mobility, and a little more than one tenth an intragenerational vertical professional
promotion (13 %; carrier mobility)
