THE REPUTATIO OF THE TEACHER'S PROFESSIO: A EXAMPLE OF A
SOCIETY I TRASITIO
Summary
The paper reveals some results of an empirical research on the reputation of the
teacher's profession in contemporary Croatian society. The research was accomplished in
Slavonia and Dalmatia, using a sample of various social groups. The resolts are given in 14
tables with analytical comments. Although some considerable differences between social
groups are present, the results indicate a mediocre teacher's reputation in the society. It is
considered higher by the examined having a lower level of education by parents of preschool
pupils and in the rural environments. The teachers have small or mediocre reputation in the
view of their colleges (secondary school teachers) and students.
