V devetdesetih letih dvajsetega stoletja je
Argentina prevzela strog neoliberalni model, kar je
dræavo pripeljalo do visoke stopnje brezposelnosti,
nizkih plaË, neenakomerne porazdelitve bogastva
in zmanjπevanja sredstev za javno izobraæevanje.
Decembra 2001 so ljudje spoznali, da tak model
politike ne pelje nikamor, in nova druæbena gibanja
so zasedla osrednje mesto politiËnega prostora.
Ta Ëlanek analizira karakteristike gibanj v dræavi,
obenem pa analizira tudi procese uËenja in
politiËne posledice za Argentince.

Latin America: Rebellion from the periphery

This article is a short comparative analysis of
some of the most important social movements
that have emerged and disseminated in the last
two decades in the vortex of the implementation
of neoliberal policies in Latin America. The aim of
the article is not an exhaustive discussion of the
aforementioned, but to give some points of
departure for the study of that phenomenon most
authors would dub “new social movements”
(NSM), and to do so via research in three states:
Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil. The article opens
with a theoretical discussion as to what do we
actually understand by the term NSM and what
kind of innovations do they bring in relation to
prior organizations and groups. It then focuses on
a discussion of the differences between European
movements and those from Latin America;
concludes with ‡ and through the elaboration of
common points and general characteristics (social
composition, organization, discourse deployed
and forms of struggle) ‡ highlighting the formation
and developmental dynamic of Zapatismo
(Mexico), the landless peasants movement (Brazil)
and the piqueteros (Argentina); and attempts to
foreground both their similarities and differences.
