Creating and Distributing Products in Rural Tourism
Purpose of study:
“Days of Honey” in Pazin are regional exhibition of the
honey that was in February this year held for the seventh
time. The purpose of the study was to determine
the opinion of the beekeepers, the participants of the
exhibition, about this exhibition in order to plan future
exhibitions to meet the demands of participants and become
a better tourist product of the destination, Istria.
Methodology/Approach:
The study was conducted in February this year at an exhibition
“Days of Honey”. For this purpose a questionnaire
was created. The survey was conducted by pupils
of Gymnasium and Vocational School Juraj Dobrila from
Pazin. In a survey a total of 34 beekeepers, the participants
of the exhibition, were included. The survey contained
a total of 31 questions, open and closed types.
Questions were related to socio-demographic characteristics,
beekeeping methods and motives of participation.
Structured abstract
Findings:
Events dedicated to agricultural products are becoming
increasingly attractive to visitors and / or tourists
and become an important part of the destination promotion.
The research results are reflected in recognizing
the most important elements of the event by the
participants themselves, and most important motives
of participating in exhibition. The paper also presents
the results of examinations at all exhibitions “Days of
Honey”. The conclusion is that participants generally
consider participation in this or similar exhibitions very
important, and the majority of respondents expressed
that elements such as image building, promotion, sales
of own products, build relationships with other producers,
are considered very important or extremely important
in making decisions about participation on the exhibition.
Originality/Value:
This paper presents the primary research data therefore
opinions were obtained directly from the users and the
holders of the event. Understanding their motives is important
for further development of this exhibition, as
well as of area in which it is realized. Since beekeepers,
the participants of the exhibition are agricultural producers
these events have an impact also on the development
of rural areas.
Practical implications: Based on the obtained opinions
of the participants it is possible to properly plan the
future of the exhibition with the aim of developing the
tourism product (exhibition) by including more agricultural
producers (beekeepers) in the region.
