Title of the contribution:
Unused tourist potentials of the Medvednica Nature
Park
Keywords:
tourism, cultural landscape, nature park, projects
Type of presentation:
scientific work – oral
Theme:
The heritage and tradition in tourism
Purpose of study:
This paper seeks to show how area of the Medvednica
Nature Park has unused potentials for tourism development
in the metropolitan region of the City of Zagreb
and, on the other side, to warn that unplanned tourism
can lead to devastation of space and reducing the value
of landscape in every sense.
Methodology/Approach:
The paper is focus on research of original archive material
(spatial plans, studies, promotional materials, touristic
guides, etc.) as well as published materials that refers
to the subject of research. There are valuable data in the
literature through which, along with expert analysis and
superimposition from other sources, as well as studying
the current situation on the location, we can set the
guidelines for the further development of Medvednica
Nature Park.
Findings:
Based on the analysis and tourist evaluation of Medvednica
Nature Park allocates eight key atraction, which also
represent the eight separate large-scale projects for the
Structured abstract
future development of the Nature Park. For the key attractions,
we can be able to anticipate the various forms
of tourism that would enable the development of the
region. Planned programs should be selected according
to the criterion of adaptability to existing conditions
and with minimum impact on the changing physical environment
to preserve the natural state and at the same
time enable development of the local community.
Originality/Value:
Current land use plans made for the Medvednica Nature
Park only declaratively perceive tourism component,
but not real opportunities for tourism development
and also the damage that tourism can bring. Such kind
of research for the Medvednica Nature Park was not
made until now so that work on evaluation of tourism
potentials represented undoubted contribution in the
context of considerations of economic development of
the City of Zagreb and beyond.
Research limitations/Implications:
In terms of research this paper should affirm attitude of
necessary of enhancing the spatial and tourism planning,
and projects that would accept components of
environment and tourism.
Practical implications:
In practical terms, this research should become an integral
part of the process of spatial planning and tourism
in order to design guidelines and requirements for
future development of an area.
