Intangible heritage in a function of social life of Nin, in<br />
the past and present<br />

Purpose of study:<br />
The purpose is to understand the preserved constructing<br />
skill of wooden boats and belief of the apparition,<br />
establish the right expression for wooden boats of<br />
Nin (among three that are in usage now), approach<br />
the problems related with the keeping alive examined<br />
phenomena and confirmation of their connection with<br />
the rural area and tourism.<br />
Methodology/Approach:<br />
Several research methods are used in the paper. They<br />
are field research, relevant observation, qualitative<br />
analysis of archive content and literature and synthesis.<br />
Surveys were performed on a sample of 100 households<br />
and in-depth interviews with eight people from Nin and<br />
the surroundings.<br />
Findings:<br />
This work will clear up: constructing skill of the Nin<br />
wooden boats and the right expression for them. Also<br />
the previously unknown information about the 500<br />

Structured abstract<br />
year old belief of apparition of Our Lady of Zecevo will<br />
be gathered. The relationship of the two phenomena<br />
will be established. The connection of rural areas and<br />
tourism will be also cleared up. It will confirm that<br />
the researched inheritance was important and still is<br />
important in the social life of Nin and the surroundings.<br />
It will show if the residents know that the constructing<br />
skill of wooden boats and belief about the apparitions<br />
belong to intangible heritage.<br />
Originality/Value:<br />
In the fundamental research in the paper Intangible<br />
heritage in a function of social life of Nin, in the past<br />
and present previously unknown data to the public<br />
related with the constructing skill of wooden boats<br />
and traditions of belief were collected, and it will<br />
be a valuable contribution to a possible change in<br />
the function from preserved to protected intangible<br />
heritage and the use of these phenomena in tourism<br />
purposes.<br />
Research limitations/Implications:<br />
The problem in the development of the paper was<br />
limited amount of data, lacking literature related to the<br />
topic of research and other written evidence and the<br />
limited research resources.<br />
Practical implications:<br />
Practical application of research work relates to the<br />
increasing awareness about care and preservation of<br />
valuable intangible heritage of Nin and its surroundings,<br />
which in modern times has a tendency of disappear.<br />
